DV Security is a FireWire Line Pulse Protector.
IEEE 1394 products (Camcorder, PCI adapter cards, hub, external storages etc.) can be susceptible to electrical potential difference or any other element creating a high voltage ( ESD etc) when the cable is connected or disconnected from 1394 port.
The ESD pulse (electrical spark) can be introduced directly into the open port, or into disconnected end of the cable.
After the ESD pulse is introduced into the data port, it will travel through the connector to the IEEE 1394 control chip.
In order to provide the IC with protection again ESD transients or live chassis, the use of DV Security is recommended. The DV Security is installed between the PC and Camcorder, DV editing studios, home DV applications and computer 1394 I/O devices –without requiring a power supply.
DV Security can suppress all transient high voltage down to the allowed level.
